A couple of old friends from the west coast.

Here are a couple of old buddies from my old Southern California days. The first two photos are of Caspian Terns. I used to call them Caspian Tanks because as far at terns go, they are huge. They are about the size of an Iceland Gull and quite chunky. They do make it over to Massachusetts, but not very often. I did manage to see one earlier this spring flying over Gloucester Harbor. This one was flying over Balboa Island near Newport Beach, CA.

Next is a Forster’s Tern. This little guy is strictly a west coast bird. I shot this one at Bolsa Chica in Hunting Beach, CA.

Lovely shots of these amazing birds Steve.
The great distances they travel are quite unbelievable.

Great shots, particularly the last one.

Beautiful shots - being as landlocked as I am here in Dallas, it's great to see coastal birds.... even if they are digital :)

Excellent shots Steve. I was happy to see our arctic tern back. She was really late this year!
