SkyWatch Friday, The Greasy Pole

The Greasy Pole is uniquely Gloucester. It is used during the St. Peter's Fiesta held during the last week in June. A flag is fixed to the end and smeared with a thick coat of grease. The men of Gloucester walk the greasy pole and try to be the first to grab the flag.

It is hot here in Gloucester today. The town has come alive. Many are walking the Boulevard or hanging out at the beaches. Teenagers are out on the Greasy Pole. What a glorious day. Life is good in Gloucester today.

Great pictures! There is not enough money in the world to get me to do that! Do they still jump into the quarries in Rockport?

What a fun shot. Sounds like a great way to cool off... without the grease of course.

Ha! Great shots! I believe that is the first real summers shot I have seen this year! Long way down to the water, but I'm sure they have done it before - and they have great fun!
Fun tradition!

"Stop the insanity!" is what I say! Those kids are nuts. Even back in the day I wouldn't have jumped off any pole!
