Sleepy Heads, Two Owls from Morongo

A visit of Big Morongo Canyon Preserve yielded three owl sightings. Big Morongo Canyon Preserve is located in Morongo Valley, CA. Two Great Horned owls and a nesting Long-eared Owl made my day. This male was resting in a near by tree. The second Great Horned Owl was a female on her nest, about 50 feet off the ground.

The Long-earded owl was a life bird for me. Here she is hunkered down on her eggs, about 10 feet off of the ground. The male has been reported to hang about, but is difficult to find in the dense brush.

Nice closeup of the Great Horned Owl Steve. I Haven't got to see a long eared yet. We did come across two Barred Owls talking to us just the other day.

These are awesome. He does look a little sleeply. LOL! Opened his eye just to let you know he knows you're there. :-)

The first shot is very impressive, even if it is a picture of a sleeping guy:-)
