These are great photos as always Steve. I can never get close to these birds and don't see them that often either.

Great shots Steve! I've been shooting these birds lately too but they sure are skittish. Hopefully I got a couple good shots this morning. We'll see.

I just love the hair do!

Hi Steve,
you were for sure close or you used a big lens :-)
Very nice close-up pictures of a bird I never managed to get nice shots, they are so scare!!

Beautiful light on those mergansers. I specially like the last female. Like Roy, I don't get to see them close in so these photos are a treat!

Like Roy & Jenny, I've tried but could never get close enough, perhaps we need to dress up differently! Great shots of a delightful Sawbill Steve. FAB

Wonderful photos, I liked yesterdays swan photos also.

Oh, I know what you are saying Roy. Ducks are used to being shot at so they don't like humans pointing things at them.

Hi Eve, Real funky. Sometims Mergansers are called sawbills.

Hi Helen, Kim, John and Andy, so glad you stopped by and let me know you were here.

I hope yours come out, Sharon!

Hi Jenny, I put that one in especially for you!

Well Frank, you need to dress for windy, crappy New England weather. That usually works for me! Actually, I will spend a lot of time working with these birds. Sometimes they chill out and will come in, other times the get interested in their meal, sometimes I get lucky but most of the time, I get the under tail coverts.

Thanks Steve, we were thinking about a holiday to New England but now I'm not sure when you mention crappy weather!
I obviously need to be more patient when trying to photo some species....time will tell.

Hi Frank, If you want good weather, June through September (October) is the best bet. We live for three months of good weather. After school starts, the weather and life is much better. Come over for the foliage.

Hi Tabib and Stacey, these are very funky hair birds.
