Downy Woodpecker

It seems like everyone is seeing Downy Woodpeckers these days and have been making some great images. I was lucky to get this one here, a real cock-of-the-rock.

Thanks, Joan, Helen, Kim and Chris. I'm still wondering where the Hairy Woodpeckers are. I still haven't seen one since I've moved back to the Atlantic North East. }:<

...love that close-up!! You can even see the feathers that cover the nostrils to keep wood dust from going up his nose.

Yep, really lovely close ups Steve, is this taken in your garden or out and about?

Hi Kelly, Makes you want to sneeze just looking at it!

Hi Jenny, no, unfortunately, I don't have a garden. :( This was taken out in the woods.

Great shots, Steve. Have seen both Downy and Hairy here in the Ozarks -- or so says my wife. She's the one who knows birds and helps me keep them straight.

Love the close up the downy. He is a great little guy. They seem to be everywhere in North America.
