Happy Groundhog's Day

This is a pocket gopher. It's not a groundhog, but close enough!

Legend has it that if the groundhog sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks until spring. If he doesn’t see his shadow, there are only 42 days of winter left.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed it doesn't see its shadow, winter is too long.

Talk about being at the right place at the right time to get this adorable photo.

I too will cross my fingers in hopes it doesn't see its shadow. I am very sick of winter. ;o)

He looks like he has something to say but can't figure out what...:-)

...that is the cutest shot of a gopher I've ever seen (works as a groundhog for me)! How long did you have to wait to catch him?

Well Kelly, I took about five shots. It was getting late and I tried hand holding and I tried flash.

Richard, I think he's saying, "hey bud, you going to plant some corn this year?" I had one show up in my garden in the middle of Long Beach California. I was admiring my 5 foot tall corn and I saw one wiggle and shoot down into the ground! I didn't know what the heck it was. Turned out to be a pocket gopher.

Almost like a catch 22 isn't it Steve? :)

Terrific capture!

As far as Punxatawney Phil goes, I think he's just a big tease. Every year he gets our hopes up, and every year spring comes just as it always does. I say we should stuff the little rodent.

Can you tell I'm just a wee bit tired of winter? LOL

Yes, it's six of one, half dozen of the other. I'm ready for spring.
