An unwanted guest

I took a walk through Dogtown during my lunch break and went to the north end of Babson reservoir. There were two Gray Catbirds making a fuss, which is highly unusual. I have several in the yard. They make pleasant neighbors. They have a very pleasant warbling song and their cat-like calls from the bushes are easy on the ear. So when I heard the fuss, I thought it might be an owl, which may have been an easier foe. It turned out to be a Eastern Milk Snake coiled up in the nest.

I was hoping that the snake would get the message and move along, but it was determined to enjoy being knotted up in a ball in what I presume to be the Catbirds’ nest.

How did it turn out? I don’t know. I had to get back to work.
