Sutherland Falls, Proctor, VT

Proctor sits on large marble deposits. It is home to the one famous Vermont Marble Company which has a rich history. Vermont Marble Company helped build many of this nation’s monuments such as the Tomb of the Unknown Shoulder and the Lincoln Memorial.

This is Sutherland Falls. The Otter Creek tumbles past the buildings of the Vermont Marble Company. You can see the complex folds in the ancient sea bed that made up part of this area. The river flows north from Peru, Vermont up to Ferrisburgh where it empties into Lake Champlain.
