This is an American Crow shot in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The American crow is larger than the Fish Crow. Note the heavier bill.

Music City, Nashville, Tennessee

As I mentioned yesterday, I was on business travel to Nashville, Tennessee. The downtown scene was pretty busy and there was a lot going on. Stevie Nicks was in town with the Pretenders, the Nashville Predators were having a hocky game and the American Vacuum Society Symposium was in full swing. I was there for the latter.

Back from Nashville, Tennessee

Once again, I find myself on the road. This time I was on a trip to Nashville, Tennessee for a professional conference. I knew that I would be just a couple of blocks off of Broadway, so I brought out one of the big boy cameras to play with the light.

Rocky Mountain National Park

When I was in Colorado, I had an opportunity to scamper up to Rocky Mountain National Park. As [bad] luck would have it, the lighting was very flat. But I didn’t care. I was in Colorado.

I drove up the road to the continental divide. I was at 11,200 feet and my head was spinning a bit.

It was the end of October. The birds were at lower elevations, the pica and marmots are already hibernating. I did not see elk (wapiti) or bighorn sheep. I did see one very large mule deer, Stellar’s Jay, Mountain Chickadee, Pigmy Nuthatch and a Clark’s Nutcracker.

Tough as nails

We had a heavy frost the night before I shot these Autumn Meadowhawks. These bugs must be tough as nails. This Autumn Meadowhawk is chewing on a gnat that it caught.

Mid-autumn Spotted Spreadwings

I must say that I was surprised to find Spotted Spreadwings on the 5th of November in Dogtown. They were catching gnats in a sunny protected spot.

Fall Babson Boulders

I took a walk through Dogtown on Saturday afternoon just to get some space. The colors in Dogtown were dominated by the yellows of the American beech that grow plentifully there. The red and white oaks are putting on a good show too.

Saint Catherine of Siena Chapel

I took a drive along the Peak to Peak Highway up in the Rocky Mountians west of Boulder, Colorado. In Allenspark, Colorado is the Saint Catherine of Siena Chapel.

Church of Saint Nicholas in Balzers, Lichtenstein

As luck would have it, when I had a chance to get out shooting in Balzers, the sky was overcast and the lighting was difficult. But you have to be fearless with the light.

This is the steeple clock tower of the church of Saint Nicholas.

BERGGASTHAUS STAUBERN

At the invitation of my hosts, we had dinner at the BERGGASTHAUS STAUBERN. Staubern is 1751 meters/5744 ft above sea level on the eastern ridge of the Aplstein. I has a spectacular view of the Rhine valley as it flows between Lichtenstein and Switzerland.

The most expeditious way to get to the inn is to take the cable car.

Did I mention that it was steep? This is the view up towards Austria.

I couldn’t resist taking a picture of Switzerland with the Helvetic Airways wingtip in the frame.
