Forgotten Photo Friday, Immature Black Saddlebags

Last July 2nd at the Point Reyes Bird Observatory I saw a dragonfly fly down into some grass about 50 feet from where I was standing. It took me a little while to find it, but there it was.

The best identification that I can come up with is that it is an immature Black Saddlebags.

Nice dragonfly! I have never seen one with markings like that before. I will be in Point Reyes in August and hope to do some bird and wildlife watching while there. Any recommendations besides the bird observatory?

Make friends with the rangers at the Point Reyes Visitor's Center. They are very helpful and will get you pointed in the right direction.
