I keep telling you how difficult it is to find these Lance-tipped Darners perched, yet this year I seem to be having a good string of luck. This one ducked into some asters.

No Trespassing!

I was watching two adult Mute Swans and a juvenile as a pair of Canadian Geese came flying in like they owned the place. The swans made it very clear that this is their pond.

Farmland in Schuylerville, New York

As we wind down summer, I’m going to show you some farmland on the back roads on upstate New York. All of these are in the town of Schuylerville, New York. Now we can say goodbye to summer.

Forgotten Photo Friday, This is Hawaii?

Yes, one of the best time I ever had on New Years Eve is when we went up to the top Of Mauna Kea and hung out with the big telescopes.

There’s a “Gemini” standing by the Gemini telescope.

Late summer dragons

Dragon season is winding down here in Massachusetts. The autumn colors are starting to take over the meadows. Here is a Meadowhawk on a blueberry leaf.

We have three Meadowhawk species that are indistinguishable by us mere mortals.

I believe that this is a Lance-tipped Darner. I’ve seen quite a few this year, although finding them resting is rather rare.

Look closely, there are three bugs in this image! I didn’t realize it until I got into the dark room.

Rexleigh Covered Bridge

Over the Batten Kill River near Salem, New York you can find the Rexleigh Covered Bridge.

Just upriver are the bones of the Rexleigh marble mill. The Batten Kill is famous for trout fishing. I could see fish jumping in the pool in the right of the image.

Saturday Morning Surprise

When I got out of bed Saturday morning, there were two Whitetail Deer munching on the landscape. Both were young bucks that still had velvet antlers. I only got one of them.

Dragons behind the Whipple House

In the heart of Ipswich, Massachusetts is the Whipple House. Behind the house is a little pond by the Ipswich River. It is a fun place to photograph bugs. During this time of year there is a lot of Joe-Pye Weeds and Purple Loosestrife.

First up is a darner that ducked into the shadows. I’m pretty sure it is a Lance-tipped Darner.
