Vesper Sparrow

Up on Bald Mountain just west of Boulder, Colorado (my happy place) at 7200 ft above sea level, I found this Vesper Sparrow having a tussle with a Green-tailed Towhee. I would have loved to bring you the towhee too, but it just wouldn’t come out into the open.  This Vesper Sparrow takes the prize for being too cool.

Believe it or not, I shot these hand held with my D7100 + 70-300mm zoom. I travel with it some times because it is a little more versatile. However the 70-300 does tend to be a bit soft. In this case it did a great job. Seeing this sparrow was quite a thrill, it’s been a long time.
