Falcons at UMASS Amherst, the third egg just hatched!

There is a pair of Peregrine Falcons nesting on the library on the UMASS Amherst campus. I was checking in the this morning and watched the third chick hatch at 7:15. Totally amazing.

It was quite interesting how gentle the parent tries to be when handling the eggs and chicks. The two older chicks are much larger, she was trying to get keep the two larger chicks, fourth egg and the newly hatched chicks under cover. It was extremely gentle, even when handling the shell fragments.
