Marvelous picture. Mostly we measure spring here in the south by when they leave and they are pretty much all gone, although hundreds - thousands spent the winter in the Okefenokee Swamp.

And when they first arrived one fall in Texas, I got to see them in flocks of hundreds, undulating across the landscape like red-wing blackbird flocks.

And I've seen them run off bluebirds and take over the boxes at National Bison Range in northwest Montana. Beautiful but very aggressive birds.

Here in the fall, I've seen thousands fly down the coast along Plum Island. miles and miles of flying by.
