Sedona, Arizona. Red Rocks Country

If you take I-17 out of the Phoenix, Scottsdale area and head north to Sedona on 179, you will turn a corner a all of the sudden you will see these formations as you approach the Red Rocks country. It is absolutely STUNNING. Unfortunately, we arrived when a Pacific storm system was moving through. Alas, the light was pretty flat. But so what? We were on vacation and in the desert.

Up by the airport is a lookout over the town. The views are spectacular. Stop by later this week and we’ll go for a hike to the base of the formation that is just left of center.

Sedona is just a beautiful place. Last May we came down curvy 89A out of Flagstaff in the afternoon with not enough time to see all the amazing formations, but what we did see was stunning. Thanks for posting these.

Sorry the light wasn't what you were hoping for, but man, the scenery is amazing! I haven't been out west since I was a little kid. Sure hope I get there again someday.
