It stuck out like a sore thumb

I was walking around State Fish Pier on Saturday morning taking photos of the herring boats when something stuck out like a sore thumb. Do you see it? Let me put the D600 back in the pack and pull out the D5100.

There it is. Now there is a bird you don’t see in downtown Gloucester every day.

This is a juvenile Sharp-shinned Hawk. It looks like it has been feeding on something.

And off it goes.

I love seeing large birds of prey around, so majestic aren't they. All the more surprising in the midst of civilisation.

Great shots Steve. Certainly not a bird one expects on the water's edge.
