Braking through the barrier, Ruby-throated Hummingbird

This is one of those birds that I have in my yard but have never been able to image. No kidding. I see them all the time but due to their spunkiness, they just won’t sit still.

I was shooting with a couple of friends at the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary and this juvenile stopped in a crabapple tree. Finally!

Later, this female buzzed by a trumpet vine.

I have imaged hummingbirds out west. Here in the Atlantic North East, this is our only hummer. The Ruby-throated Hummingbird numbers are quite low compared to their western cousins. We have at least three in our yard. Next year, I’ll put up a feeder.

Be sure to visit Wild Bird Wednesday this week!
