Common Pondhawk on Wild Grape Leaves

©2013 Steve BorichevskyIt is not often that you can find dragonflies on a cloudy day. If you do, take advantage of the opportunity because the results can be pretty good. What I especially like is the lack of catch light in the dragonflies’ eyes. Where it is an positive attribute in humans and birds, I find that the better dragon portraits do not have the catch light, which tend to be blown out white. The Pondhawk males are blue, the females are green.

The lack of glaring sunlight definitely makes for a better outcome. Excellent images Steve.
