Return of the Masked Bandit

Yes, friends. It’s that time of year. The Masked Bandit has returned to temp and torment me. The Common Yellowthroat is, well, common. They prefer low bushy habitat near water. I have a pair in the back yard. But they like to stay deep in the bushes, just deep enough to baffle my camera’s autofocus.

Or at least one. I can hear him pronouncing that this is his back yard. The verdict is final and he will make his appearance when and if he sees fit.

Now here is the object of his affection. She left his bush and went to the other side of the yard. He was a bit agitated and began to call from a 50 yard radius. Then he found her again and she ditched him.

He then set up a circuit around the yard and called, going from bush to bush.

I don’t know the outcome, but the next day, he was back in his usual territory proclaiming that he is the cock-of-the-rock.

Yah, you da’ man.
