Along the scenic 17 Mile Drive toll road is the Lone Cypress. This is an icon of the Monterey coast, located in Pebble Beach, California.
At the turnout, there is a set of stairs down to an overlook deck.
We spent some time at the the Lone Cypress overlook to do a photo study. This is a very popular stopping point.
If this scene look slightly familiar to you, it was used in a Lexus add a couple of years ago.
The sunset was a great opportunity to exercise the new D600. All of these shots are pretty much straight out of the camera, shot in JPG mode.
The Lone Cypress is a registered trademark of the Pebble Beach Corporation. I kid you not. There is a sign posted stating this. It points out that “photographs or art renderings of the Lone Cypress for commercial or promotional purposes cannot be taken or created without written permission from Pebble Beach Company. Photographs and art renderings for personal use only are welcomed.” However is is a very welcoming place to get into the spirit of the California Coast. I always feel refreshed when I get into the cypress groves. I highly recommend you give it a go.
