Death of Marat on Lake Constance

Continuing with my business trip, we did some sight seeing on Sunday in the city of Bregenz, Austria. Each summer, they have an Opera Festival and build an elaborate stage. This year’s stage is modeled after the painting by Jacques-Louis David, La Mort de Marat.

The stage is off the shoreline and the theater complex extends behind the viewpoint of the photographer.

Here is an interesting video about the construction of the stage. It will give you a good idea about the artistic intent of the stage, how it functions and a bit of the production.

Along the lake shore is a great park with many relaxing activities.

This is the 19th century Bregenz post office situated on the lake.

Finally, we sat down at a café for a beer. This is a rather enjoyable unfiltered barley beer that my host recommended for me. Good choice.

Glad to hear the stage is only temporary. Pretty cool concept but, would be an eyesore as a permanent installation in such an otherwise natural setting IMHO.

That is one amazing set for the Opera Steve.

I guess the beer is litre size.

Ha! No, that's a 0.5L beer.

I've wanted to see at least one incarnation of that stage, never have. Your shot, with the blue-sky backdrop makes it seem so dramatic and cut from the environment. Beautiful.
