Saturday Evening Creature Feature, African Silverbill

The African Silverbill is another introduced species to the island of Hawaii. As with the other finches it was introduced in the ‘70s through the pet trade.

They do make a delightful addition to an aviary, however I do prefer to see them behaving naturally. They prefer the arid parts of the island.

The African Silverbil is also known as the warbling finch. It has a very melodious song and pleasant song that matches is wonderful disposition.

I did find them to be a bit timid, although this one was okay with me taking his photo as he munched on a grass seed head.

I hope to see this wonderful species in his native land some day.

He looks a cross between a Finch and a Parrot Steve.
