Beautiful beast Steve, one that I did not know as we do not have it over here and neither in France ;-) Beautiful shots despite the grey sky!

Love cormorants. My introduction to them beyond field guides was in high school when I had to do a last minute oral report from a National Geographic article. I'd missed a couple of days of school and was scrambling through the stack in the back of the classroom to pick out something I could scan rapidly enough to get a coherent presentation. Saw an article on what is for me, a now long-forgotten group of Japanese fishermen who used cormorants to fish for them. They'd tie cords to the birds legs and let them dive for fish. Strings tied around their necks prevented the birds from swallowing the fish they caught. Thanks to National Geographic, I got almost all my information from the photos and captions and an A on the report. To this day, I always think about fishing with them when I see our local variety on area rivers.
