This is a Least Tern Nest. Not a whole lot of engineering going on here. The trick is to keep it above the extreme high tide line during a full moon or a new moon. On the beach, the nesting areas are off limits to humans and are fence off. This one was in an area where there were other sun worshipers laying on the beach. With a long lens and some cropping, I got a nice photo.
