Fitz Henry Lane

This is a statue of the local 19th century artist Fitz Henry Lane, also know as Fitz Hugh Lane.

It is very possible that his statue is located in the same spot that he painted this scene of The Fort and Ten Pound Island. I discovered his paintings after moving to Gloucester. You can see his painting at the Cape Ann Museum.

I love the second photo - the way he is leaning forward, trying to capture the scene before it changes! And the moon smiling down on him!!
