A trip to Monterey Bay California is always fun. The Brown Pelicans are rather mellow and laid back, as one would expect in California. There are a few trawlers left in the bay, but nothing like the mighty fleet that used to fish here. At a restaurant, I asked what the local catch of the day was. The waitress replied, “Alaskan halibut.” Maybe I should have asked this juvenile Brown Pelican what he was having back in 2008 when I shot this.

Well Halibut can't be that bad ;-) Beautiful shot Steve. Have a nice week end.
That is one big beak. Great Photo Steve.
superb capture!!! congratulations!
He looks like he is trusting you might hand him a fish. ;)
Hey, Steve. I live within a block of Monterey Bay and your post caught my attention. I regularly walk to Monterey Boat Works and the Commercial Pier and talk with the fellas in the early morning. A couple years ago, the commercial fishermen lamented how it wasn't worth the cost of gas to motor out to catch fish, so they were closed for most of the week. This year, my husband and I have noticed more fishing boats out on the Bay and for longer periods of time than we've ever seen before. I can't find much information online, so I can't confirm where their catches go. Asia? I'm guessing you ate at a touristy place on Fisherman's Wharf or Cannery Row. They're known to get their seafood from elsewhere, because it's prepepared and cheap. I can offer you pointers on were to go for fresh, local fish the next time you come to our area.
Steve, I just had to laugh!!!
Great pelican photo! I've never seen one so close, of course you used a lens and zoom. Such a great capture.
Nice shot Steve! I like the texture on the bird.
Gorgeous shot of the pelican, Steve.
What a great bird. Hopefully I'll get to see one in person someday!
I love this guy Steve!!
