Juvenile Barn Swallows

Three juvenile barn swallows landed on the wire outside my window yesterday morning. They hadn’t yet developed the fear of cameras, so I had a little quality time with them. I won’t begin to tell you the challenges I had shooting these backlit swallows!

Wow! Utterly amazing! We did have some swallows who built a nest but it appears some sparrows have taken up residence! Politics eh?

These are great shots Steve, especially the one up from the bottom.

Steve I think you did a great job on shooting these barn swallows against the blue sky. They are really hard to photograph I think as they seem to stay up high where you can't get near them for one thing. Carol

These are just the most wonderful pictures...especially the bird with its wings spread. It's as if they were posing, just for you.

Aren't they wonderful? I had the chance to shoot a few recently too. Such cute birds.

Looks like someone is testing their wings!

They really are a beautiful bird. We were out riding around after a long hike and came across some old sheds in a small harbor down a dirt road. The area was loaded with barn swallows. So unintimidated were they that they flew down and landed on the road right in front of our truck and went about their business as if we weren't even there. Of course, we had to stop several times! ~karen

I love the shot where he is scratching his head! When I was young, the barn swallows would sit on the clothesline, and dive bomb the cat whenever she showed herself...
