Sometimes you never know what you will see when you take a walk in the woods. I was walking along a swamp in Dogtown in Gloucester when I heard some loud, agitated sniffing. I could see some disturbed water but couldn’t quite figure out what it was. Then it popped its head up.
It was an otter! This was my first otter sighting ever and to get off some shots made it all the more fun.

Fantastic! I have seen them swimming in the tidal river before. They are so cute and it's great that you had the camera at the ready.
I didn't even know we had Otters around here! Look at that sweet little face.
That is just fabulous Steve, what a great sight to see and even better to get photos off.
Oh, wow! I'll bet you were so excited! Great shots, too!
Wow congrats Steve on this observation and on the ncie pictures. I love them!! I would have been completely excited and I guess you were. I would also have probably jumped into the water to take pictures ;-)
Great shot Steve.
congrats on your first otter!! (and pictures too, excellent!). I'm a huge fan of these guys, glad you got to see him. There are a few families around here that i was seeing regularly but it seems they may have relocated, hmm. Great shots!
What a cutie and how lucky you were to capture these shots.
An exciting encounter..well shot Steve. FAB.
What an inquisivite looking fella'...very cute!
Great Post Steve, and well done on getting a couple of shots in too.
Incredible! Fantastic captures of this wonderful otter Steve. I'm so glad you were able to photograph him as I know they do not hang around very long. You must have great reflexes.
How cute! What a neat sighting. Great photos, Steve!
Nice catch, Steve.

Brilliant photo Steve. Can't have been easy.
Oh my gosh what a cool little guy this is sticking his head up out of the water. Love it. Thanks Steve. Hope all is well with you.
These are so great Steve! The otter is so cute. We have one that lives in our pond, and whenever I see him it just brightens up my day.
Beautiful shots -- it looks like you two made a connection!
