October Darner

One would think it is getting to be too late in the season for dragonflies yet I shot this darner on Sunday Morning here in Gloucester. Every time I see one of these, I’m taken in by how big they are.

Pretty cool Steve! I've seen a few dragonflies around lately also but they seem much more edgy than they were a few weeks ago.

I noticed that too, Sharon. I think the population has shifted from the 3 meadowhawks that we cannot tell apart over to more of the Autumn Meadowhawks. Look for the brown legs of the Autumn Meadowhawk. The other three have black legs.

Thanks Joan.

I like the color combination a lot. The brown and the yellowish-green of the tree blendes wonderfuly with the brown and the green of the dragonfly. Great!

Fantastic and big.. So when is the last month you will see dragonflies??? Are you getting them later than before? Quite interesting if it is the case!
