Jimmy T, The Best Grand Banks Dory Rower in the World Today

©2009 ShootingMyUniverse

Jimmy T is well known in the dory racing circles. He has been having a phenomenal year rowing Grand Bank Dory and Seine boats. Today he took photographer David Cox, Tyler and me out to photograph the parade of sails. David a known Gloucester photographer and antique dealer and contributes to GoodMorningGloucester.

A dory is built to hold up to 2000 lbs of load. This stabilizes her in the water. David and Tyler took the aft seats and I took the bow. Jimmy T was in the middle. This provided an excellent platform for us photographers.

While we were rowing back to Saint Peter’s Marina, I pulled out my little video camera and shot this clip. Jimmy has a bad case of laryngitis so the sound had to be tweaked on my crude video editing platform.

The justification of the existence of this artistic endeavor is that it shows four guys in a boat having a good morning out on the water. I have no other excuses for it other than Jimmy is a good neighbor and deserves recognition for his support of dory rowers everywhere. Towards the end of the video we will meet the captain and crew of the trawler Captain Dominic.

And if you were wondering, yes I was holding the video camera in one hand and the D80 in the other. (I know, "two hands for beginners, Steve.")

Here is a little “teaser” to wet your appetite for the Parade of Sails photos to come. This is the Pinky Schooner, Fame from Salem, Massachusetts.

Wonderful video! Like I was there all over again.

I kept wondering how Jimmy knew where he was going because he hardly ever turned around. I also wondered where the life preservers were ; )
