Peeps

It's getting on towards the time when Fall migration brings the peeps in. These were shot on the Essex River last Saturday. These are mostly Semipalmated Sandpipers. There could be some Least Sandpipers and Western Sandpipers in there too.

Fall is not here yet, I refuse to believe it. Summer hasn't really come yet. Fall, nope, not, ugh, ugh.....

You really are good in capturing things like this Steve. I have to try it this summer.

This is some of the best photography I have seen of birds on the wing, Steve. You blow me away with these. I manage to get a butterfly on the wing and make a banner out of it. LOL

Beautiful SESAs! I can't wait for the fall migration to get going, although I'm not ready to say goodbye to summer.

thanks for posting these! -kate

...must be amazing to watch these huge flocks come in. I imagine I would spend a lot of time with camera in hand wandering the beaches! Lovely images... (appropriate for the ocean, my Word Verification was "waveli") :-)

Great flight shots! I I grew up in an old fishing port (A million years ago) and I really enjoy your photos. They bring back so many memories...

love the first one especially, Steve. Guess they're headed this way. Think I'll visit the wildlife refuge next week!

I've been unable to keep up with blogs for last week, but your photos are wonderful - especially the preening tern. I'm off tomorrow for a pelagic trip, then some birding on Plum Island - hope the shorebirds are there in numbers - and great shots!

Marvellous images Steve, the middle one is a classic and just the way to view Waders flying.

Yes, they are gathering aren't they. I've noticed the Swallows as well forming large groups lately. Soon they will be gone (if they haven't already left) like so many who have made the journey before them.

Seems this may have been one of the shortest summers in recent memory. Capture those birds while you still can!

Yes - these look very similar to the shorebirds I saw at Bolsa Chica. Thanks for identifying them for me!
