Meet my new neighbor, Bob White.

I was having a conversation with a friend and she asked, "Have you seen the Bobwhite?" "Ah, well, no, but I'd like to." I had my camera in hand so chances were slim that he would be back there. When we went back, he was hunting bugs in the grass and graciously posed for a portrait.

I'm very pleased to present to you a bird that I have heard a few times but have never seen, a male Northern Bobwhite.

Although he did not call "bob-white" for us, he did whistle a couple of times.

That sure is a handsome neighbor you have there Steve. Ask him if he wants to move to SA? I will make sure he is well fed. :)

Steve, these are typical images of your very professional work. Brilliant.
We would deem this bird to be some kind of a Partridge species in England.

Why can't I have a neighbor like that? You captured that eye so well Steve, like you usually do.

Great to hear/see a bobwhite in NE - I thought they had all but disappeared. I gather this was in the Gloucester area. Not only a rare find, but good photos. A very cooperative fellow!

What a great looking neighbor! And, he eats bugs too. That is a wonderful quality for a neighbor to have!

These are awesome images! I love these birds. I live in a wooded area now and seldom hear them. But this spring I had one singing outside my window. Did not see him, however. A treat to also have this one be a first sighting for you.

Oh....you lucky duck!! When I was growing up, we had Bob White in our backyard. During the spring and summer I would hear their call every day, and it became part of my ritual to talk back to them. In 1978 a terrible blizzard and horrible winter decimated their numbers and with added habitat destruction they have never recovered. We have them in isolated pockets, but nothing like when I was a kid. About 12 years ago I heard one, but have not seen or heard one since.

This is just great Steve! I heard my first Bob White in the field at the end of my driveway here in Alabama. We didn't have them in NY. I tried and tried to find him but couldn't. Maybe someday but he's stopped whistling. The only time I ever heard that in NY is when I had a Mockingbird sing it for me!
