What are you doing here? Black-legged Kittiwake

I see hundreds, if not thousands of gulls each day. Sometimes, one gull sticks out like a sore thumb. This was such a gull. Kittiwakes are winter birds, and are not found inside Gloucester Harbor. What are you doing here, little Kittiwake? This is a welcome addition to my life list.

Hi Helen, Kim and Kelly, They are a winter bird off the coast here and the never com into the Harbor, so I've never seen one either.

Hi Ginnymo and Denise, Our gulls here are generally the big Herring and Great Black-backs. This one caught my eye because the bill looked small and those black legs were a tip-off that I had something out of the ordinary.

A lot of my readers are blessed with great feeder birds, or warblers in thier yard. I have Gulls. What is a guy to do?

Lovely shots! Such a quiet looking bird - maybe it's a bit lost? They come over to Ireland to breed in the spring - to stand on a cliff edge looking over at their colonies is quite special, and all the time they call my name!

Hi Kitty, I hope that this bird is indeed from the southern wintering area and just getting it's migration on. I it well and may it find it's way to your area and call your name.
