SkyWatch Friday, Northern Gannet

Going out on a whale watching trip gives you a good opportunity to get some great birds. This time of year, we have Northern Gannets off shore. These were shot last Saturday. If you are coming in from the SkyWatch link and you have not seen my Humpback Whale pictures yet, you're in for a treat.

In these shots you can really see the bird is build for flying! Great shots!

And - I recommend everyone who hasn't seen your humpback whales, to click on the link!

I'm always in awe when I visit here. These are stunning.

I wonder if you could reveal at least a clue about how you are able to post such large images on blogger? I'd be much obliged.

:-)

Fantastic graceful gliders on the air! And that little duckie floating on the water looks like a real decoy.
So cute!

HI Frank, Yes, these are built for power diving! I've never seen them feed in person, but I have on the boob tube.

Thanks for the comment, Valkyrien.

Hi Pagan Sphinx, If you look at the right hand side, towards the top, I have a link called the SMU Layout. That will show you how I did it.

Hi Joan, I'm happy with the way they turned out.

Thanks Ginnymo!

Hi Kelly, Yes, especially when you are on a pitching, rolling boat dodging spray. Yah, that is why we have a trash can.

Oh my goodness. Those are some of the most gorgeous flight photos I've ever seen. Gannets are have such exquisite facial markings. I love them!

Hi Steve,
Great captures. I like the third one a lot, the colors and the light are beautiful, and the perspective of the bird wonderful... I guess this is one of this bird that we are not stealing you during the summer ;-) They have not been seen yet in Iceland.

What an incredibly sleak, stream-lined bird. The peach shading on the face makes it that much more interesting. Can't say I've ever seen one before.
