As summer draws to a close, we thought that we should hop the
P-Town ferry before she shuts down for the season. Provincetown gives a photographer a lot of opportunities for shooting. Yes, there is a flamboyant side of P-Town that is world famous, however it is a beautiful town with its Pilgrim Memorial icon and sea side atmosphere.

The ferry leaves Gloucester at 8:30 am and arrives in P-Town at 11:00. The return trip boards at 4:00 giving you about 5 hours if you’re on a day trip. This has you in town during the glaring sunlight hours, but there are still lots of fun things to photograph.

Here are three shots of Officer Thomas, the Provincetown dancing traffic policeman. Although he is very animated and fun to watch, he has no patience for drivers puttering at his intersection. “Hey, before Labor Day. Come on, let’s GO!” It’s more than being entertaining. In the middle of a busy intersection, you have to be the most eye catching thing or you could get hit.

Walking around the streets, you will see well groomed gardens. This flower is about eight inches in across.
The Wilder Side of P-TownNo, not THAT wilder side...This is a wildlife photo blog.

I caught a little motion out of the corner of my eye. Then I couldn’t find him until he moved again. This little crab has tried to make himself look as uninteresting as possible.

This Semipalmated Plover was on the beach right in town.
More adventures on the way home. The Laura crosses
Stellwagen Bank and will stop to view whales encountered on the return trip. This humpback whale was photographed on the way back to Gloucester.

Bring your binoculars. Although this was not a birding trip, I saw Cory’s Shearwaters, Manx Shearwaters, Greater Shearwaters, Laughing Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Herring Gulls, Ruddy Turnstone, Semipalmated Plover, Common Tern without any difficulty.
