OH Dear Steve!!! Well, I can say I havent heard this one before but for this guy I'm going to say 3!
Not because that's my favorite number (it really is) but because he seems to have three of everything...but hopefully the answer is better than that!!

It must be gold plated. What a beautiful eagle. The kind my dad would like over his house.

Yes, this is executed in wood and had been gilded.
I was looking for 13. There are 13 stars and thirteen bars on the shield. If you carefully count the leaves on the olive branch, you will see 13. Take a look at a dollar bill, you will see 13 arrows, but I guess the carver though that may be a tough to execute. This is for the 13 original colonies.
